LG Launched 23-inch LCD with 240Hz

LG Display has launched its 23-inch 240Hz LCD for desktop monitors. Ha Hyun Hwoi, LG Display's VP and head of the IT business unit, noted, "This product was designed to meet expectations of consumers who are already used to superior picture quality and high motion picture response time. LG Display will continue with efforts to introduce products that deliver new value to our customers and consumers."

This type of panel was developed by combining 120Hz technology with scanning backlight technology which enables the backlight to be repeatedly turned on and off. The 240Hz will come in most handy for 3D gaming since currently we are stuck with 60Hz for each eye so a higher refresh rate will only smoothen the 3D experience and should get rid of any last semblance of flicker.

Designed using LG Display's copper bus line technology for processing vast amounts of data, the response time of this monitor is 8ms which should be just about enough for ghost free gaming and movies. Sending this large amount of data would require a wider channel so monitors that use this panel would most probably use HDMI 1.4a ports.
