Google's Cr-48 Chrome notebook

cr28

The Cr-48 Chrome notebook was full of black like stealth fighter, with rubberized black surfaces,on laptop there was no logos at anywhere and have minimal accoutrements: Dual-band Wi-Fi and world-model built in 3G radio and camera, one USB port, single Video-out port, head phone jack and with power supply with microphone and speakers. It has a 12.1” screen and a full-sized keyboard

The Cr-48 laptop, revealed at a press conference this week in San Francisco, isn't up for sale in any retail stores. Instead, the computers will be given away as a part of Google's Chrome operating system pilot program.

The Cr-48 is designed by Google and is available in limited numbers to approved users in order to test out the "work in progress" and provide feedback to the company on how the system works

It’s certainly as fast and responsive as you’d expect from a netbook, but it’s not nearly as fast as a MacBook Air or a reasonably equipped, sub-$1,000 laptop

Amazon charges Kindle users for free

Kindle-in-hand

A report in Tuesday’s Washington Post reveals that Amazon is apparently selling free public-domain eBooks that have had their license information stripped. The eBooks in question originate from Project Gutenberg and are available there for free in a variety of formats including ePub, HTML and Kindle. Project Gutenberg — not to be confused with 80s legend Steve Guttenberg — was founded by eBook inventor Michael Hart and is known as the first generally available collection of free eBooks. It is also maintained by volunteers who are not paid for their services. Amazon’s alleged practice of selling rebranded Gutenberg eBooks is not illegal — in fact it doesn’t even violate Project Gutenberg’s license terms. It is, however, unethical at best and very disturbing at worst. In response to inquiries, an Amazon spokeswoman told the Post, “These books were uploaded by a third party using our self-service platform. I’ve sent your note to the appropriate team internally.” Amazon did not state that the Gutenberg eBooks would be removed from its Kindle store, nor did it condemn the practice of selling reformatted versions of free public-domain eBook files.

Google TV Already ln Trouble

sony-google-tv

Google has big plans for its Google TV platform, their plan was to get a Google TV device into every home, either via a set top box or a Google TV enabled TV, but there are now signs that the platform may be in trouble. The Google TV platform was released just over a month

The first Google TV device, the Logitech Revue, this was quickly followed by Google TV enabled TVs from Sony.

Now Sony are offering discounts of 25 percent off their Blu-ray Google TV units, which normally doesn’t happen so soon after a products launch unless there is a lack of demand for it.

One of the major problems with Google TV, is the price of the hardware, the cheapest way to get Google TV into your living room is via a Logitech Revue set top box, this will cost you $300, compare this to Apple TV which costs $99, although the two platforms are not comparable at the moment as the Apple TV lacks many of the features of Google TV.

Another problem that Google TV has faced, is content being blocked by TV studios, many have blocked Google TV from accessing their videos which can normally be viewed on their websites.
